Editorial Policy
How we research, write, and maintain our Iceland travel guides.
Editorial Independence
Iceland.org is an independent travel information resource. We are not affiliated with the Icelandic government, any national tourism board, or commercial tour operator. Our editorial decisions are made solely to serve travelers planning trips to Iceland.
When we recommend tours or services, these recommendations are based on traveler reviews, community feedback, and publicly available information. We clearly distinguish between editorial content and any sponsored or affiliate-linked content. Our guides are free to use and always will be.
How We Research Our Guides
Every guide on Iceland.org is researched using a combination of official sources, expert knowledge, and real traveler experiences. Our primary sources include:
- Official Icelandic agencies: Visit Iceland (visiticeland.com), SafeTravel (safetravel.is), the Icelandic Met Office (vedur.is), and the Icelandic Road Administration (road.is) for weather, road conditions, and safety alerts.
- Government data: Statistics Iceland for population, economic, and geographic data. The Environment Agency of Iceland for protected area information.
- Traveler community: We monitor travel forums, review platforms, and social media to understand real visitor experiences, current conditions, and practical tips that official sources may not cover.
- On-the-ground experience: Our team includes contributors who have traveled extensively throughout Iceland, from the popular Golden Circle to remote Westfjords and Highland F-roads.
Accuracy & Updates
Iceland's landscape, weather, and tourism infrastructure change frequently. Volcanic eruptions reshape roads, new attractions open, and pricing shifts seasonally. We take accuracy seriously:
- Every page displays a "Last updated" date so you know how current the information is.
- We review and update destination guides on a regular cycle, prioritizing pages for popular attractions and seasonal content (like weather guides) before the relevant travel season.
- When conditions change significantly — such as a volcanic eruption, road closure, or attraction price change — we update affected pages as quickly as possible.
- Our safety disclaimers remind readers that conditions in Iceland change rapidly and to always check official sources before traveling.
Corrections & Feedback
We welcome corrections and feedback from travelers. If you notice information that is outdated, inaccurate, or could be improved, please contact us. We review all submissions and update our guides accordingly.
Our goal is to be the most reliable, comprehensive, and up-to-date free travel resource for Iceland. Your feedback directly helps us achieve that.
