# Iceland Weather in March

March adds daylight while Reykjavík’s average daily minimum remains below freezing. Use the extra light to make a winter itinerary less rushed, rather than assuming summer access has arrived.

Temperatures are averages of daily highs and lows, not extremes. Precipitation is a monthly total, not the number of rainy days. This Reykjavík station does not represent every region or elevation.

## Longer days without a summer road plan

Separate a coastal sightseeing day from a full Ring Road circuit. The latter depends on several regions and successive overnight commitments; a clear forecast at the first stop says little about the whole loop.

If northern lights matter, protect a few flexible evenings and check the actual darkness and cloud forecast. Do not rearrange a trip around a claimed last reliable aurora date or an equinox guarantee.

## What to keep within reach

Keep winter layers and grippy footwear. A dry change is useful after waterfall spray or rain, and sunglasses can help when low sun reflects from wet ground or remaining snow.

- [IMO aurora page](<https://en.vedur.is/weather/forecasts/aurora/>): darkness and cloud cover matter alongside activity. Its sun-time panel is for Reykjavík.
