# Iceland Weather in August

August is slightly cooler than July in the Reykjavík normals, with a higher monthly precipitation total. It is useful to compare your actual travel week, not treat the whole month as one set of conditions.

## Late summer and changing evening light

If your plans depend on evening photography, check sunset for the dates and location you will visit. An early-August schedule does not fit the end of the month without adjustment.

A possible late-summer aurora sighting should be a bonus, not the only reason for the trip. Check darkness and clouds for your evening. For a wildlife outing or festival, verify its own current schedule rather than a fixed date copied from a previous year.

## What to keep within reach

Keep waterproof layers and a warm top in reach for outdoor evenings. Reserve time to dry wet clothing before the next day instead of counting on the car heater to handle everything.
