# Skagafjörður: Glaumbær, riding and the difference between inland and coastal stops

Skagafjörður covers a broad North Iceland district around the fjord and its inland countryside. Start with a specific activity rather than trying to treat the whole area as one stop.

## Glaumbær has a useful September cutoff

Glaumbær’s 2026 schedule opens daily 10:00–18:00 through September 20. From September 21 to October 20 it opens weekdays 10:00–16:00; October 21–March 31 visits are by appointment. General admission is 2,200 ISK in the published 2026 tariff. Check for changes before travel, especially if your visit falls on a weekend after September 20.

## Book riding around your experience

The regional What to do directory lists riding providers including Hestasport and Langhús. Select a particular ride and confirm its meeting point, duration and rider requirements with the operator. A region’s horse-farming reputation does not tell you whether a given tour suits a beginner or a child.

## An island excursion is a separate commitment

The same regional directory includes Drangey trips and other coastal activities. Keep an island outing separate from inland museum and riding plans: confirm departure location, season and weather arrangements before building the rest of the day around it. For the broader district, see the [Skagafjörður fjord guide](<https://www.iceland.org/fjords/skagafjordur>).
