### Day 1 · Arrival

Transfer, check in and rest. Keep optional sightseeing near your accommodation.

### Day 2 · Golden Circle

Choose selected stops. Continue to a South Coast base if that fits the next two days, or return to Reykjavík.

### Day 3 · South Coast

Visit selected waterfalls and viewpoints, checking current access. Stay locally if the next activity starts nearby.

### Day 4 · One activity and return

Choose a suitable glacier, cave or other outing, allowing the return journey. With a city base, this can instead be a local day.

### Day 5 · Departure

Plan the complete airport journey first. Add a final stop only if flight timing permits it.

## Choose between two overnight patterns

A Reykjavík base is useful when you want guided departures and fewer check-ins. For consecutive South Coast days, compare that with a countryside overnight. Do not drive back to the capital after a Vík visit only to return to Vík for an early activity unless that extra travel is a deliberate choice.

Put actual hotel addresses and activity meeting points into the plan. A regional accommodation label cannot tell you whether breakfast and a morning check-in fit.

## Choose the activity before committing the day

A [glacier walk](<https://www.iceland.org/tours/glacier>), [natural cave visit](<https://www.iceland.org/tours/ice-caves>) and constructed ice tunnel have different bases and requirements. They are not interchangeable seasonal versions of one activity.

For the [Reynisfjara stop](<https://www.iceland.org/black-sand-beach>), follow the current access warning rather than treating beach entry as guaranteed. Allow an alternative stop when conditions prevent the planned visit.

## Protect arrival and departure

The outline assumes three full days between flights. An evening arrival or early departure can remove the lagoon and city time often shown on those days in package lists. Work from the airline’s airport timing and include transfers, luggage and any rental return.

Compare the [four-day version](<https://www.iceland.org/packages/4-day>) if time is tighter, or the [ten-day route](<https://www.iceland.org/packages/10-day>) if you want a broader circuit. Send your actual flight times and preferred overnight pattern with the enquiry; the outline itself confirms no reservation.

## 5-day package FAQs

Quick answers with safety notes where it matters.

**Does five days cover the full Ring Road?**

It would leave little time for visits and flexibility once flights are included. This outline focuses on the southwest; compare a longer Ring Road plan if completing the circuit is your priority.

**Should I stay in Reykjavík every night?**

A city base reduces hotel changes and supports guided day trips. A South Coast overnight may suit a Vík-based activity and avoids returning to Reykjavík between consecutive days in the same region.

**Can the same plan be used in every season?**

No. Recheck daylight, roads, activity availability and walking conditions for the dates. Keep the overall area manageable, then adapt the outings and pace.

**Does the outline include a glacier tour?**

Only as an option to request. A specific offer must identify the tour, meeting point, minimum age, walking and equipment requirements, price and availability.
