## Look for the labelled trees

The operator describes walking paths, information signs, labelled tree species, tables and benches. Planting beside the paths has helped create a collection of trees and shrubs. That makes the woodland a useful place to slow down and compare species rather than simply add another viewpoint to a driving day.

Choose a path after reading the on-site information. This guide does not establish a measured loop, step-free route or current parking tariff; check those details if they determine whether the stop suits your group.

## How the woodland developed

Planting began in the 1950s. The forestry account describes an area of about thirteen hectares and continuing thinning since around 1990 to improve access and growing conditions. Akurgerði joined the Open Forest program on July 5, 2008.

Use the named Skinnastaðir location when planning your route. Searching only for an Akureyri forest takes you to a different set of places and will not identify this woodland.
