# Arnarfjörður: Eagle Fjord of the Westfjords

Known as the Eagle Fjord, Arnarfjordur is the second-largest fjord in the Westfjords, stretching 30km into remote wilderness. It holds the Dynjandi waterfall and the Sea Monster Museum in Bildudalur, and its landscape is among Iceland's most untouched.

Key Stop

Dynjandi

Accessible via Route 60 (Dynjandisheiði).

## Quick Answer

Arnarfjörður is often called the most beautiful fjord in the Westfjords. The landscape here feels big: the tiered Dynjandi waterfall dominates the fjord head, and sharp, pyramid-like mountains frame the sea. In local folklore, these waters belong to sea monsters.

## Choose the branch of Arnarfjörður

[Visit Westfjords](<https://www.westfjords.is/en/place/arnarfjordur>) describes the fjord dividing at the Langanes promontory: Suðurfirðir lies to the south, while Borgarfjörður and Dynjandisvogur lie to the north. Dynjandi is in Dynjandisvogur. Use the individual stop as your map destination; a generic Arnarfjörður pin does not distinguish these shores.

The Langanes here is a local promontory, separate from the long peninsula in Northeast Iceland. For a day containing both Dynjandi and Bíldudalur, check the full driving route and museum hours before adding more stops.
