These are planning estimates, not live routing or access information. Check weather, daylight, road conditions, site restrictions and your rental terms. A paved road is not a guarantee that any car can use it in any season.
Reykjavík → Þingvellir · Route 36 · ~49 km · ~45 min. Allow 1-2 hours.
Choose the actual route through Þingvellir, with time for the viewpoint or a longer walk. Check the park map and path conditions before deciding how much to include.
Check the national park’s current parking rates, payment instructions and facilities. Confirm any parking-card exemption with the park rather than assuming registration is automatic.
Þingvellir → Geysir · Routes 365, 37, 35 · ~60 km · ~50 min. Allow 30-60 minutes.
Allow time at the geothermal area without promising a particular eruption interval. Stay on marked paths and respect barriers around hot water and steam.
Confirm current entry and parking instructions. Check the actual business and its opening hours if you plan to stop for food, fuel or facilities.
Geysir → Gullfoss · Route 35 · ~10 km · ~10 min. Allow 30-60 minutes.
Choose the open viewpoints suitable for your party, rather than assuming you must visit every platform. Leave time to return to the vehicle.
Confirm current charges, path conditions and facilities. Ask about the particular route’s steps and gradients if access needs affect your visit.
Gullfoss → Reykjavík · Routes 35, 1 · ~120 km · ~1 hr 45 min. Budget each detour separately.
Head back south on Route 35. Possible detours on the return journey include: Faxi waterfall, Friðheimar tomato farm near Reykholt, the Secret Lagoon in Flúðir, and Kerið crater. Join Route 1 at Selfoss for the drive west back to Reykjavík.
Choose a named food/fuel or charging stop on your final route and confirm its service and hours. Include the detour and stop in the return budget.
Keep drives separate from visits. Skipping a visit does not remove its route leg. Add detour driving explicitly. Write in departure and end time on the same day; add all durations and compare the result with your available time.
| Input | Example | Your plan |
|---|---|---|
| Departure / end time | 08:00 / 18:00 | ________ |
| Four drive legs (minutes) | 45 + 50 + 10 + 105 | ________ |
| Three visits (minutes) | 90 + 45 + 45 | ________ |
| Meal / buffer (minutes) | 45 + 60 | ________ |
| Total / finish time | 495 minutes / 16:15 | ________ |
The example leaves 105 minutes before its chosen end time. That is arithmetic, not confirmation of safe conditions. Unknown times must not be silently treated as zero. Custom entries in the interactive guide are not copied into this blank worksheet.
