Hrafnseyri is a historic farmstead on Arnarfjörður in the Westfjords. Only a handful of people live here today, but the settlement matters in Icelandic history as the birthplace of Jon Sigurdsson (1811-1879), the leader of Iceland's independence movement. The site now houses a museum with a reconstructed turf farmhouse and an exhibition about Sigurdsson's life. Around it are the mountains, waterfalls, and deep waters of Arnarfjordur.

## Arrange an autumn visit before driving over

The [museum publishes free admission](<https://www.hrafnseyri.is/syningar/opnun_og_adgangseyrir/>) and daily 11:00–17:00 opening from June 1 through August 31. Outside that period, access is by arrangement. For a September visit, contact the museum before adding it to your drive; seeing a museum marked on the map does not confirm that the exhibition will be open.

The [café is now in the main building](<https://www.hrafnseyri.is/syningar/veitingar/>). If refreshments are part of your plan, ask about those when arranging an out-of-season visit. Both operator pages were checked September 10, 2026.
