Icelandic Foreign Minister Opens Pretoria Embassy
Launch of website marks embassy open for business
The occasion was attended by Deputy Foreign Minister Aziz Pahad, South Africa´s ambassador to Iceland, Ismail Coovadia, senior officials of the two governments, and numerous guests from the business and diplomatic communities.
Reflecting modern society’s ever increasing reliance on electronic based interaction, Minister Sverrisdóttir opened the embassy’s website home page to mark the opening of business.
Ambassador Sigridur Duna Kristmundsdóttir is accredited to 16 African countries and the AU in addition to her role in South Africa. Improved trade, aviation and investment opportunities are high on the list of the embassy’s priorities. Cooperation in the fields of culture, the arts and education also receive a high level of attention from the ambassador, a former professor of social anthropology at the University of Iceland.
