Iceland opened its first Embassy in Africa in Maputo, Mozambique, in July 2001. As diplomatic relations grew on this continent, the Ambassador was also accredited to Angola, Benin, Botswana, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mali, Namibia, Senegal, South Africa, Swaziland, Uganda, Tanzania and Zambia. The Embassy was moved from Maputo to Pretoria, South Africa in November 2005.
