Icelandic Foreign Minister meets Secretary of State in Washington D.C.
Mr.Geir H. Haarde, the Foreign Minister of Iceland, met February 2, 2006, with the US Secretary of State, Dr. Condaleezza Rice, and the Under Secretary of State, Mr.Nicholas Burns, in Washington. He also met with Under-Secretary of Defense, Ambassador Eric Edelman, in his first visit to Washington since he took office last September. In the meetings, the Ministers discussed primarily the status and the future of the US-Icelandic defense relationship, but also recapitulated the situation in Iraq and Afghanistan. Following the meetings, bilateral talks between Icelandic and US officials took place regarding cost-sharing at Keflavik International Airport and a greater Icelandic contribution to common defense.
