US Coast Guard Admiral visits Iceland
Admiral Thomas Collins of the US Coast Guard visited Iceland July 1-2, 2005. He was repaying a visit made by Iceland’s Coast Guard director Georg Kr. Lárusson to Washington D.C. last March.
In Iceland, Admiral Collins met with Minister of Justice Mr. Björn Bjarnason, Director Lárusson, and officers of the Icelandic Coast Guard.
According to Mr. Lárusson, there is mutual interest in maintaining close cooperation between the two agencies. Plans have been discussed for the Icelandic Coast Guard training with the US Coast Guard and attending seminars on everything from the monitoring of commercial fishing to specialized helicopter training.
