US Will Implement Privacy Rules Regarding Flight Information
In the aftermath of 9/11 the United States implemented strict regulations regarding information on inbound passengers to the US. In a memorandum from the US Embassy in Reykjavik the US has declared that regarding Iceland, it will abide by the rules negotiated with the European Union concerning privacy rules that apply to the information. According to the EU-US agreement the US will not ask for access to sensitive personal information such as race, origin or religion. The agreement was made to comply with EU privacy regulations from 1995. Those regulations also apply to Iceland through the European Economic Area Treaty of 1994.
