Iceland has healthy marine environment
As reported on www.fishupdate.com
07 July, 2006 - ACCORDING to the Monitoring of the Marine Biosphere 2004-2005 report from the Icelandic Fisheries Laboratories based on their annual review of the state of living resources around Iceland, there are very few changes since last year with little evidence of heavy metals, interseafood.com reported.
As in the past, measurements of heavy metals in cod and mussels have been under the levels recommended by ICES, although there are exceptions, such as cadmium, which has relatively high levels in Iceland and appears to have natural geological sources, as no artificial sources of cadmium have been identified.
