Siggi Flosa Quartet in New York
Joe´s Pub, January 17th 2006, 7.30pm
The Sigurdur Flosason quartet is an Icelandic super group in the jazz field, an all-stars line up spanning three generations. The group performs mainly Flosason’s compositions, in a style that could be said to be both Icelandic and international. With 10 CD’s to his name, Flosason is one of Iceland's most prominent and most active jazz performers. Besides Flosason’s alto saxophone, the group features pianist Eythor Gunnarsson - best known for his work with the internationally known fusion group Mezzoforte, veteran drummer Petur Östlund - a legend in Icelandic music- who has lived and worked in Sweden for the last decades, and one of Iceland's most promising young jazz musicians, Valdimar K. Sigurjonsson on bass. Iceland’s leading female jazz vocalists, Kristjana Stefansdottir, will appear with the group in parts of the program. The group will perform music that spans the energetic to the introvert. It’s music is both accessible and advanced - anything but boring.
