Kitchen Motors - UK Tour
Deliciously hypnotic music from Reykjavik
Kitchen Motors is a Reykjavik-based artists' collective with a reputation for cross-art chemistry and surreal charm. With members drawn from across the musical spectrum, Kitchen Motors is a creative playground, where exciting new ensembles appear by happy accident and dense and magical films entwine with thrilling new sounds.
On this their first major UK tour, we serve up an organic journey through the minds of the collective's founding members. Performances centre around two main ensembles, linked together through solos and new collaborations to create an unending audiovisual experience. Combining acoustic and homemade instruments with cutting edge electronics, this is a world at once ancient and futuristic.
Hildur Gudnadottir’s hypnotic cello sounds a powerful primordial drone.
Johan Johannsson’s Nymanesque compositions speak of ageless landscapes and stillness.
Virtuoso bassist and Laurie Anderson collaborator Skuli Sverisson breaks with convention in his potent use of rhythms, non-rhythms and distortion.
Laptop improviser and visual artist Kira Kira temps you to enter her knowingly naïve wonderland, populated with whimsical sounds and curious creatures.
Entwined with this mesmerising music, are the twisted, atmospheric visuals of Kira Kira and Magnus Helgason.
