Styrkir Snorra Sturlusonar fyrir 2008 eru nú lausir til umsóknar

Stofnun Sigurðar Nordals auglýsir styrki Snorra Sturlusonar fyrir árið 2008 lausa til umsóknar. Styrkirnir eru veittir erlendum rithöfunum, þýðendum og fræðimönnum (ekki háskólastúdentum) á sviði mannvísinda til að dveljast á Íslandi í þrjá mánuði hið minnsta í því skyni að kynnast sem best íslenskri tungu, menningu og mannlífi. Styrkirnir miðast að öllu jöfnu við greiðslu á ferðakostnaði styrkþega til og frá Íslandi og dvalarkostnaði innanlands. Af tveimur jafnhæfum umsækjendum skal að jafnaði sá hljóta styrk sem er frá Austur- og Suður-Evrópu, Asíu, Afríku, Rómönsku Ameríku eða Eyjaálfu.

Stofnun Sigurðar Nordals greiðir götu styrkþega meðan á Íslandsdvöl þeirra stendur og í lok hennar skulu styrkþegar skila stofnuninni greinargerð um hvernig styrknum var varið.

Í umsókn sinni skulu umsækjendur gera stutta en rækilega grein fyrir tilgangi með dvöl á Íslandi, dvalartíma, svo og menntun og störfum.

Umsóknir sendast stofnunni fyrir 31. október 2007.

The Sigurður Nordal Institute invites applications for the Snorri Sturluson Icelandic Fellowships for 2007. The Fellowships are granted to writers, translators and scholars (not university students) in the field of humanities from outside Iceland, to enable them to stay in iceland for a period of at least three months, in order to improve their knowledge of the Icelandic language, culture and society.

The amount of the Fellowships is based in priciple on travel expenses to and from Iceland, plus living expenses while in the country. Should two equally qualified canditates be under consideration, preference will, as a rule, be given to a candidate from Eastern or Southern Europe, Asia, Africa, Latin America and Oceanica.

The Sigurður Nordal Institute asssits Fellows during their stay in Iceland, at the conclusion of which Fellows are expected to submit a report to the Institute on how the grant was spent.

There is no special application form for the Fellowship. Applicants should submit a brief but thorough account of the purpose of their stay in Iceland, specifying period of stay, as well as details of education and publications.
