Italian-Icelandic Business Day in Milan on the 26th of May, 2008
The Embassy of Iceland in Rome and the Icelandic/Italian Chamber of Commerce (IICC) will hold a high level business and investment event in the Palazzo Marino in Milan on 26th May 2008, in cooperation with various Icelandic and Italian institutions and companies, including the City of Milan and Chamber of Commerce of Milan. The date was chosen in relation to the first direct flight of Icelandair from Keflavik to Milan this year on 24th May.
The event will be addressed by the Mayor of Milan, Mrs Letizia Moratti, and the Icelandic Minister for Health, Mr Gušlaugur Žór Žóršarson, in whose address the Milan Expo 2015 theme: “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life” will feature prominently. The purpose of the event is to promote commercial relations between companies in the two countries, as well as introduce investment opportunities in Iceland. A special emphasis is to be placed on banking, financing, and the use of renewable energy in Iceland. The tourism industry will also play a role in the event. Speakers include representatives from the Icelandic Ministry for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, the Export Council of Iceland, the Invest in Iceland Agency, as well as the Landsbanki-Kepler, Icelandair, Island Tours, Icelandic Tourist Board, the Design Group Italia/Blue Lagoon and the Becromal SpA. In the evening there will be a special tourist promotion. The event will feature Icelandic culture and the possibilities for tourism in Iceland will be explored. The event will be sponsored by Icelandair, Island Tours, the Blue Lagoon and the Icelandic Tourist Board.
Milan and Northern Italy are among the most highly developed industry and business areas in Europe. Several Icelandic companies operate branches in the region and have invested in production facilities. Milan based companies have shown considerable interest in investing in Iceland. The event will provide an opportunity for individual meetings between potential business partners.
The Embassy of Iceland in Rome oversees coordination and planning of the event, in cooperation with the Icelandic Consul General in Milan, the IICC and the Icelandic Tourist Board. Coordinator on behalf of the Embassy is Jónas Haraldsson.
