FishCode Custom Training Courses Project
Representatives of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Iceland and the FAO have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on a FishCode Custom Training Courses Project (Global Partnerships for Responsible Fisheries: FishCode and the FishCode Trust), to be conducted by the FAO Fisheries Department and United Nations University Fisheries Training Programme in Iceland. The MOU, which was signed on behalf of Iceland by Mr Gunnar Snorri Gunnarsson, Permanent Secretary of State, provides for one million USD funding of courses in the developing countries in the next three years. The MOU was negotiated by the MFA´s Political Department, Dr Grímur Valdimarsson, Director of the FAO Fishery Industry Division and Dr Tumi Tómasson, Director of the UNU Fisheries Training Programme. The project was the result of a meeting last year between Dr Jacques Diouf, Director-General of the FAO, and Mr Árni Mathiesen, Icelandic Minister of Fisheries. Mr Guđni Bragason, Permanent Representative of Iceland to the FAO, presented the signed MOU to Dr Ichiro Nomura, Assistant Director-General, Fisheries Department, at a meeting last week.
