First day of summer
The embassy is closed on the First day of summer, which in the year of 2008 will be April 24th. The day is the first day of Harpa, the first summer month of the ancient Icelandic calendar.
First day of summer is always the first thursday after April 18th. It is tradition to give a "summer gift" on this day and it probably marked the beginning of the ancient calender year.
