STEINGRÍMUR EYFJÖRÐ
With his often extreme direct installations and paintings he works with themes like identity in a wide perspective in an attempt to alter traditional performances, stereotypes and national prejudice.
He often bases his theories on concrete incidents and themes which he then works on and interprets in an artistic way. The results are often complex and ambiguous creations with an opportunity of manifold layers of interpretation.
Steingrímur Eyfjörð has held 40 private exhibitions and over 100 exhibitions in cooperation with other artists and he was Iceland’s representative at the Venice Bienalle in 2007. In 2006 he was moreover nominated to the Carnegie Art Award.
