Icelandic Art exhibition and concert in Xiamen
In recent years the Icelandic community in Xiamen has developed considerably and a number of Icelandic artists have made Xiamen their second home.
Ineke Gudmundsson, wife of Sigurður Guðmundsson has made the Chinese-European Art Centre at Xiamen University one of the leading venues for cooperation between China and Europe in the visual arts Xiamen also boasts an Icelandic restaurant called Heima run by an icelandic couple, Runar Sigurbjornsson and Elin Olafsdottir.
Xiamen has in recent years become a favourite destination for Icelandic tourists.
On 8-9 March Ambassador Gunnarsson visited Xiamen, met with the Icelandic community, held meetings with the Chinese-European Art Centre and was present at the opening of the Art Exhibition and concert "12 Songs" in the Ni Hao Gallery.
The exhibition was an original combination of art works and musical performance. Runar Sigurbjornsson and Elin Olafsdottir performed 12 songs each linked to the works exhibitied. The exhibition and the concert was well attended and attracted a great deal of media attention.
