Iceland vacations promoted at Ottawa show
Embassy staff and a representative from the Westmount Travel Agency in Montreal, that specializes in tours to Iceland, welcomed visitors to the Iceland showcase during the Saturday and Sunday event. It is estimated that 12.000 people attended the show.
Iceland was also featured as a “new destination for all seasons” in an hour long special seminar with a detailed presentation of Iceland as an exciting new destination for tourist. A questions and answers period followed.
Great interest by the visitors could be noted. Canadians generally have not considered Iceland as a mainstream tourist destination. 
This is undoubtedly changing with the direct regular flights by Icelandair to Toronto and Halifax now starting in April and May 2008 on a year-round basis, and a second summer of charter flights by the Icelandic company JetX and the Heimsferdir travel agency in Iceland.
