Applications open for the Snorri Program
The Snorri Program is an opportunity for young people (18-28) of Icelandic origin living in Canada and the United States of America, to discover the country, culture, nature and language of their ancestors, and to create or strengthen bonds with relatives living in Iceland. The Snorri Program offers an exciting six-week adventure starting in mid June to the end of July. The program offers a unique experience of the country, its nation, culture and nature.
The Snorri program is a cooperative assignment between the Nordic Association and INL-Iceland. It has been running since 1999 and all 90 participants highly recommend the program. The Government of Iceland, Icelandair and various municipalities and companies sponsor the program.
Application deadline: January 15, 2008.
14 individuals will be selected for the 2008 program.
Arrival date: June 15, 2008 (departure June 14).
Departure date from Iceland: July 26, 2008.
You will need at least one reference (from someone outside your family) to qualify for The Snorri Program.
Snorri Plus 2008
In 2003 the Snorri Program mainframe was expanded to include a program for those who find themselves just above the proposed age range for the first program and for those who may be travelling as a couple.
The program consists of the same components as the Snorri Program, i.e. nature, culture, genealogy and much more. Eight individuals participated the first year, 24 in 2004, thereof 14 who were a part of the socalled Snorri Plus Mini (previously referred to as the Homecoming), 8 in 2005 and 12 participated in 2006 and 16 in 2007.
They all highly recommend the program and Snorri Plus is getting more popular.

Departure: September 3, 2008

The program has been able to accept 16 individuals maximum, but is now thinking about adding up to 10 spots. 14 have been accepted already (as of Jan 7, 2008).
