Security affairs discussed with Canada
Officials from the Icelandic Ministry for Foreign Affairs, the Prime Minister's Office and the Ministry of Justice met with their Canadian colleagues in Ottawa on March 9th for talks regarding security affairs. Ministry for Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary of State Grétar Már Sigurdsson told Icelandic National Radio that the meeting went well and positively, but discussions with Canada are not as far along as those with Denmark and Norway. The Icelandic and Canadian officials also discussed a free-trade agreement between EFTA and Canada and an air traffic agreement between Iceland and Canada. Canadian officials believe that the countries can move forward on various points, but the next meeting has not been scheduled.
