The Icelandic film "The Atom Station" was shown on Monday December 18, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium at the National Library and Archives Canada, 395 Wellington Street, in Ottawa, hosted by Ambassador Markús Örn Antonsson and his wife Steinunn Ármannsdóttir.

Icelandic author Halldór Laxness wrote his novel "The Atom Station" at the beginning of the Cold War when Iceland joined hands with the Western democracies and later became a member of NATO. This caused a serious political conflict and division within the population of Iceland that did not subside until 40 years later. The film was made in 1983 by Icelandic film director Thorsteinn Jónsson and his production company.

In Ottawa 85 people attended the film and enjoyed the Jólaglögg in a reception after the film. Völundur Thorbjörnsson was the master of the hot spiced wines that made up the enjoyable seasonal drink.
