180 Canadian fund-raisers in Reykjavík Marathon
Karen Soloman, along with A-Channel camera operator Ryan Lee, made the journey to Reykjavik, Iceland with Team Diabetes on Wednesday, August 16.
The A-Channel crew were among 20 local fundraisers who made up the Iceland Team from Ottawa. The participants took part in either a 10 km half-marathon or 42 km full-marathon. Each member raised a minimum of $6,000 to be eligible for the trip – translating into more than $100,000 raised locally for diabetes research and programs. The Ottawa contingent was joining more than 180 Team Diabetes members from across Canada in Iceland.
“On behalf of the Canadian Diabetes Association, we wish to thank our Team Diabetes partners including A-Channel for their support,” remarked Melanie Estable-Porter, Team Diabetes Specialist. “This is an amazing achievement – our Canadian Team has raised more than $1 million for the cause – and for that we are forever grateful.”
Viewers could follow A-Channel‘s Ryan Lee on his quest to complete his first full-marathon on A-Channel News at 6 and A-Channel Morning. Karen Soloman provided daily reports on the Team’s progress and did general interest features on Reykjavík – photos and commentary from the four-day trip was also posted online at A Cannel’s website.
Ambassador Markús Örn Antonsson was interviewed about Iceland and Reykjavík on the A-Channel Morning show on August 16 and later in the day he met the Team Diabetes, along with the A-Channel crew, at the Ottawa International Airport to see them off.
