Celebration of Cultural Diversity in Ottawa
June 9, 2006, the Embassy participated in a multicultural event hosted by Bob Chiarelli, Mayor of Ottawa, to celebrate the cultural and ethnic diversity of the city. More than sixty countries sent their representatives to the celebration, which was very successful despite inclement weather.
In the Icelandic booth, a video from Iceland was displayed, along with the Icelandic National costume, the Icelandic Woolen Sweater, posters from Iceland and brochures. Visitors were invited to taste Icelandic dried fish with butter.
The event was the first of its kind to be undertaken by the city of Ottawa, but is likely to be repeated on a regular basis from now on.
