Icelandic-Canadian Club of Quebec active in Montreal
Late-winter Thorrablót a big success
The Icelandic-Canadian Club of Quebec organized a late-winter Thorrablót fiest in downtown Montreal on Sunday night March 5. About 40 people were present, among them a group of young Icelanders who are studying in the city or working there permanently. Many are involved in IT projects of different kinds. The Icelandic Ambassador in Ottawa, Markús Örn Antonsson and his wife Steinunn Ármannsdóttir, were guests of honour.
In his speech, the Ambassador congratulated Club President Susan Stephenson for a most enjoyable event and praised the Icelanders in the Province of Quebec for maintaining close relations with Iceland and strengthening current cultural ties between Canada of Iceland in general. After giving a brief overview of Icelandic-Canadian relations at present, he emphasized in particular the importance of the Snorri youth exchange program between the countries, that has now been broadened to include people of different age groups under the auspices of the Snorri Plus.
The Icelanders in Montreal are looking forward to a special event organized by Iceland Naturally which will take place in the city later this year.
