Icelandic-Canadian firms at Boston Seafood
Two Icelandic banks open offices in Halifax
Several Icelandic companies located in Atlantic Canada were present at the Boston Seafood Show, March 12 -14. Some have established themselves in recent years within the fishing industry in Newfoundland, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Others are newcomers like the Icelandic banks Glitnir and Landsbanki, which will open their offices in Halifax soon, ready to serve customers in Canada.
Some of the companies had their own impressive booths at the show, like Marel Canada and Sæplast/Bonar Plastics and Maritec Software/WiseFish.
The Trade Council of Iceland, Eimskip, Icelandair and 3X Stál sponsored a joint exhibit. A large number of business people from Iceland visited the show, which has become an increasingly important venue for those who produce and sell fish products or provide services to the industry.
Icelandic USA Inc. was of course very visible with their “trawler” exhibit, where master chef Hilmar Jónsson prepared Icelandic fish delicacies for passersby. The Ambassador of Iceland to Canada visited the show and had discussions with representatives of the Icelandic-Canadian companies as well as paying a courtesy visit to the Newfoundland exhibitors.
