A new website opened for Iceland´s candidature to the UN Security Council
Foreign Minister of Iceland, H.E. Mrs. Valgerður Sverrisdóttir, opened yesterday a new website for Iceland´s candidature to the Security Council. Iceland is now a candidate for the first time to the UN Security Council with the backing of the other Nordic countries, Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. Iceland became a member of the United Nations in 1946 and is a member of most of the Specialized Agencies and other autonomous bodies of the United Nations.
