Basic Facts about Switzerland
Location: Central Europe, east of France, north of Italy.
Area: 41,290 km2.
Population: 7,554,661 (July 2007 est.).
Religions: 41% Roman Catholic, 35,3% Protestants, 4,3% Muslims, 1,8% Orthodox, 0,4% other Christian.
Government type: Formally a Confederation but similar in structure to a federal republic.
Economy: Stable modern market economy with low unemployment, a highly skilled labour force, a per capita GDP larger than that of the big Western European economies.
