Embassy of Iceland - Brussels, Belgium

Rond-Point Schuman 11, 1040 Bruxelles - Sími +32 (0)2 238 50 00

About the Embassy

In 1967, when NATO's headquarters were moved from Paris to Brussels the Icelandic delegation to NATO was moved as well. At the same time its role expanded and it became an embassy towards Belgium and the EU. Almost twenty years later, they became two units when the delegation to NATO was separated from the embassy towards Belgium and the EU.

Today, the embassy is Iceland's largest foreign post, mainly due to the magnitude of Iceland's relations with the EU. These include participation in the EEA Agreement as well as other European relations e.g. the Schengen Convention.

The embassy has four jurisdiction countries: Belgium, Luxembourg and Switzerland.
