The United Nations Offices in Vienna (UNOV)
The United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), established on 1 January 1980, serves as the representative office of the Secretary-General in Vienna and performs representation and liaison functions with permanent missions, the host Government as well as Governments, intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations in Vienna.
UNOV is i.a. closely associated with the United Nations Office on drugs and crime (UNOCD) in Vienna which is primeraly devoted to the fight aginst Crime and illegal Drug trade. In recent years the United Nations priority in this field has become ever more important. The UN committees on Crime and Drug protection play a leading role in harmonizing internationally the fight against organized crime and illegal drug trade. The UNOV is also engaged in the fight against terrorism and corruption.

Ambassador Sveinn Björnsson presented Antonio Maria Costa, Director General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), with his letter of credentials as a Permanent Representative of Iceland to the UNOV on the 28th of July 2004.
