Kaupthing Bank opens a branch office in Austria
On 4. September 2008 Kaupthing Bank launched its online banking product Kaupthing Edge in Austria. His Excellency Sveinn Björnsson, Icelands Ambassador to Austria, was present at the ceremonial opening of the bank. On this occasion Mr. Björnsson gave an address where he welcomed Kaupthing Bank and wished it the best of success in Austria.
Founded in 2007, Kaupthing Edge is considered one of the most successful online banks in northern Europe. It already has branch offices in eleven countries and offers highly competitive interest rates in each of them. With 4.85% interest rates Kaupthing Edge now offers the highest interests on savings in Austria, 0.30% higher than its competition. Josef Leckel, managing director of Kaupthing Edge in Austria, announced to the press on Thursday that his bank guaranteed interest rates higher than those offered by the European Central Bank until the year 2012.
