Concerts of the Icelandic chamber choir Hafnarfjördur in Austria

30.4.2008

The Icelandic chamber choir Hafnarfjördur will be together with the organ player Gudmundur Sigurdsson on visit in Austria in May.

Concerts will be held on Saturday, 10 May, 3 p.m., in the church "Weisenhauskirche", Rennweg 91, in 1030 Vienna, as well as on Sunday, 11 May, at 4 p.m., in the church "St. Stephan", Wienerstrasse 20, in Tulln. Ecclesiastical choir works as well as organ works from Iceland will be sung and played.

Furthermore, the choir will sing during the Holy Mass at the church "Piaristenkirche" in Krems on Sunday, 11 May, at 11 a.m.

The chamber choir Hafnarfjördur was founded at the beginning of 1997. Since then it has grown vocally and has become one of the better choirs of its kind in Iceland. In November 1999 the choir released the CD "Gaudete" and got excellent critics.

The choir has always tried to offer a wide repertoire - mundane and ecclesiastical choir music from the Middle Ages until now, as well as other directions of music e.g. jazz or folkloristic music. The founder and conductor of the choir is Helgi Bragason.

The entrance is free, but charity donations for the churches are accepted with pleasure.
