Contemporary art exhibition
Edition 8 of the art exhibition at Hangar-7 in Salzburg with the title "HÉRNA - Iceland here and now" shows current painting of seven Icelandic artists, selected by HangART-7 programme director and curator Lioba Reddeker. The Icelandic artists are Aaron Reyr Sverrison, Birgir Snaebjörn Birgisson, David Örn Halldórsson, Gudmundur Thoroddsen, Helgi Thorgils Fridjónsson, Ragnar Kjartansson andThorri Hringsson.
The title of the exhibition is a frequently used word in Icelandic and means "here, that is, now". In connection with Icelandic art it means immediacy and actuality, it expresses the moment, the present. The present plays an important role in the current painting. The works showed at Hangar-7 are inspired by the Icelandic landscape and the daily life, which is permeated by the belief in sagas and myths, by journeys and much more. Until today the landscape has an indisputable meaning in the Icelandic art. Each artist seems to have found it´s own approach to it.
