Contemporary Nordic Art Show

1.12.2006

The contemporary Nordic Art Show "Dreamlands Burn" will be shown from 7 December 2006 to 28 February 2007 at the art gallery Mucsarnok in Budapest. The art show is a comprehensive exhibition presenting the works of more than 30 Nordic artists and is one of the most ambitious artistic initiatives in the region for the past 100 years. The winter exhibition organised in Mucsarnok 1906 was the starting point where contemporary artists from the Nordic countries - Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden - introduced themselves.

This centenary exhibition aims at presenting tendencies of contemporary art, at commenting the changes and questions that have been paramount in the art of the Nordic region during the past one and a half decade, while using the 1906 exhibition as a reference point.

The visual art of the Nordic countries has been in the focus of professional attention from the mid-nineties. Numerous exhibitions have been organised in distinguished institutes of contemporary art in Western Europe in order to map the scenes, working with productive artists acknowledged internationally today. However, Central and Eastern Europe has not seen such presentations.

Numerous parallel events will complement the exhibition. Beside films there will be lectures, discussions and concerts.

Iceland will be represented by the participating artists Steingrímur Eyfjörð, Finnbogi Pétursson and Ragnar Kjartansson.

The exhibition will be sponsored by the five Nordic embassies accredited for Hungary, the Nordic Council of Ministers, the Nordic Ministries for Cultural and Educational Affairs and several private companies.
