Writer Steinunn Sigurðardóttir visits Vienna
Icelandic writer, Steinunn Sigurðardóttir, will read from her novel "The love of the fish" (1993), which was recently published in German translation by Coletta Bürling, Sunday the 22d of October at 6 p.m. at the book shop Thalia, located at W3 Wien Mitte, Landstrasser Haupstrasse 2a/2b, 1030 Vienna.
"The love of the fish" a story of an uncontrolled passion, an Icelandic crazy love: In a gentle manner the writer explores the souls of her figures, two lovers, who are threatened to be overwhelmed by the mute power of their feelings.
Steinunn Sigurðardóttir was born in Reykjavík in 1950. She finished her Matriculation Examination at the Reykjavík Higher Secondary Grammar School in 1968 and a BA in Psychology and Philosophy at the University College in Dublin in 1972. She published her first book, the poetry collection Sífellur (“Continuances”), 19 years old and received immediate attention. In 1995 she received the Icelandic Literature Prize for the novel Hjartastaður (“Heart Place”). Her poems and short stories have been published in magazines and anthologys in the Nordic countries, while her novels have been translated into various languages and a French movie based on the novel Tímaþjófurinn (“The Thief of Time”) premiered in 1999. Steinunn Sigurðardóttir is considered one of Iceland most successful writers and we welcome her to Vienna.
